Planting Instructions

Plant with the eyes facing upward, positioning them 1–2 inches below the soil surface. Itoh peonies planted too deeply may produce healthy foliage but little or no bloom.

Choose a permanent location in well-drained soil, as peonies dislike being moved once established. Water regularly during the first growing season while the root system develops.

Bare-root peonies are best planted from late summer through fall. August through October is ideal in most regions, allowing roots to establish before winter. In areas with prolonged temperatures above 90°F, wait for cooler weather before planting. Store the root in a cool, dry place until planting.
